Tornado season is defined from March through May but can occur at any point. Tornadoes come in many shapes and sizes, often shaped like a funnel. Wear tennis shoes in case you have to walk through glass or shattered materials. During the storm, keep away from windows and shelter in the smallest room of your home. If available, have something soft and protective such as a mattress to place over your head. Most importantly, do not wait until the last second to take shelter. After the storm has subsided and it is safe to exit your home, make sure your environment is stable. Be mindful of debris around you. Once you have exited your home safely, survey your surroundings.
